5 Summer Travel Tips for the Busy Career Woman/These Tips Can Help You Travel Stress-Free!

We all look forward to those precious days away with our families, but let's be honest…the planning AND the details can be overwhelming. So today, I'm sharing 5 of my favorite ways to plan a vacation without spreading yourself too thin. Welcome ladies to The Career Woman's Secret Playbook." Start with a Plan, But Keep it Flexible The first tip is all about balance. Start with a plan but keep it flexible. This might sound contradictory, but hear me out. You want to have a general itinerary—know your travel dates, major activities, and accommodations. However, don’t over-schedule your days. Leave some room for spontaneity. This way, you can enjoy those unexpected moments that make vacations special. 2. Pack Smarter not Harder Packing can be one of the most stressful parts of preparing for a trip, especially if you're traveling with kids or grandkids. My second tip is to create a capsule wardrobe for your trip. Choose a few versatile pieces that you can mix and match to create multiple outfits. Stick to a color scheme to make it easier, using black and white as your foundational wardrobe, with a splash of color, like a statement necklace. 3. Delegate Responsibilities Tip number three is to delegate responsibilities. You don't have to do it all yourself. Get your family involved in the planning and packing process. Older children can pack their own bags with a checklist you provide. 4. Use Technology to Your Advantage My fourth tip is to use technology to your advantage. There are countless apps and websites designed to make travel easier. Use flight and hotel booking apps that offer real-time updates and alerts. 5. Plan for Downtime Last but not least, tip #5 is to plan for downtime. It's tempting to fill every moment with activities, but remember, a vacation is also about relaxation. Schedule some free time each day to just lounge by the pool, read a book, or take a nap. This is especially important if you're traveling with children, as they often need some quiet time to recharge. Planning for downtime ensures that everyone comes back from the trip feeling refreshed, not exhausted. Let's start with a reality many of us are familiar with: Memorial Day weekend, with its slew of sales and social events, can be a real test of our discipline and planning skills. It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of big discounts or the pressure to attend every gathering AND don’t even get me started on the fact that most people have completely forgotten what this holiday is really all about. So, what are some tips we can be thinking about right now for the upcoming Holiday weekend? Well ladies, come back and join me for Episode 46 and find out! Determine how much you can afford to spend without derailing your financial goals. It's not just about resisting a good sale; it’s about making purchases that align with your long-term priorities. A helpful tip is to make a list of items you actually need before the sales start. This way, you're less likely to be swayed by impulse buys, no matter how tempting the discounts. Tip#2: Moving on to prioritizing and protecting your personal time. It’s a holiday after all, and it’s important to remember that rest and recreation are just as important as any other appointment in your calendar. Be selective about how you allocate your time. You don’t have to say yes to every invitation. Gauge each event's importance against your need for downtime. Remember, saying no can be just as powerful as saying yes. It's about choosing what truly adds value to your life and what deserves your energy. Tip #3: Lastly, balancing professional obligations with holiday events. For many of us, the lines between work and personal life are blurred. It’s crucial to communicate clearly with your colleagues and clients about your availability. Set out-of-office replies if needed and delegate tasks that can be handled in your absence. As career women, we often juggle multiple roles and responsibilities. Memorial Day weekend should not be a source of stress but a time to celebrate and recharge. By setting financial boundaries and wisely choosing how we spend our time, we can enjoy the benefits of the holiday without the fallout of overspending or overextending ourselves. So let’s get to it – let me show you 3 easy ways that you can break free from this unhealthy pattern so that you can start taking some confident action steps towards your goals. Step 1: Recognize the Pattern The first step to overcoming overthinking is to recognize when you're doing it. Pay attention to the thoughts that loop endlessly in your mind, the indecision that keeps you stuck, and the anxiety that accompanies overthinking. Once you're aware of the pattern, you can start to interrupt it. Step 2: Set a Time Limit Give yourself a designated time to think through a decision or problem, and once that time is up, make a choice and take action. Setting a time limit helps prevent endless back/forth and forces you to make decisions more efficiently. Remember, done is better than perfect, and taking imperfect action is often more productive than endlessly analyzing. Step 3: Focus on Solutions Instead of dwelling on potential problems or worst-case scenarios, shift your focus to finding solutions. Ask yourself, "What's the next step I can take to move forward?" By redirecting your energy towards actionable steps, you'll feel more empowered and less overwhelmed by overthinking. No Valentine? No Problem! Here's 14 Fun Ways to Show Yourself Some Love on Valentine's Day!

Having a significant other in your life is awesome, but it's certainly not a pre-requisite to having an awesome Valentine's Day. Let's take Valentine's Day back this year and remember that it can instead be symbolic of the love we should not only show for ourselves, but also for the people we care about in our lives, that does not always have to include a romantic partner! EVEN if you are the kind of person that thinks Valentine's Day was invented by the candy and flower companies OR if you just never really cared about celebrating it, I hope that this video will give you some inspiration to think about Valentine's Day a little differently this year! I was a single mom for almost 14 years before finding the love of my life at 48, so there were plenty of times that I did not have a Valentine's Day date and still had a blast realizing how much I had to be grateful for and I found super fun ways to enjoy the holiday, and so can you. Now since some of my 14 tips may include a little preparation ahead of time, I am releasing this video a few days early, and you might also notice that I focus on ways that we can have fun ALL day, even though Valentine's Day in 2024 falls on a workday - it falls on hump day this year, in fact, and so if you find this video years from now, just realize THAT is the reason I am creating fun things to do all throughout your workday (with still getting your work done of course!). These tips are in order so that you can wake up in the morning with a special way to get your day started off on the right foot, and then you and I are going to be focusing on the rest of the tips all throughout the rest of the day so that you can have the best Valentine's Day ever and never forget how special you are, how much you are deserving to have love in your life, and how blessed you are to have your friends and family (and if they are the problem, watch my healthy boundaries videos! Resolutions DON'T work! These Action Steps can Crush Your New Year's Resolutions Once and For All!

Hello, listeners and welcome back to another empowering episode of The Career Woman's Secret Playbook Podcast. I'm your host, Dr. Dawn, and since we are already a few weeks IN to the new year, we are going to talk about New Year's Resolutions, why they often times DON’T work, and what we can do about it. I am also going to share a personal story with you about how the recent loss of my Mom has made me even MORE aware of how priceless time is and that if we haven't made our dreams come true yet, there is NO time to waste. Let's start with the reasons why resolutions often times don't work: Reason #1: Unrealistic Expectations: The first major reason why New Year's Resolutions tend to fail is that we often set unrealistic expectations for ourselves. Reason #2: TOO General: Vague goals like "get healthier" or "be more successful" make it difficult to track progress and stay motivated. Reason #3: No Plan in Place: Setting a resolution is just the first step - without a well-thought-out plan, it's challenging to know how to work towards your goals. Reason #4: Neglecting Self-Care: Many of us put our resolutions ahead of our own well-being and then we can burn out. Reason #5: Lack of Accountability: Lastly, a lack of accountability can lead to resolutions falling by the wayside. Sharing your goals with a trusted friend or mentor, or even finding an accountability partner, can significantly increase your chances of success.
