No Valentine? No Problem! Here's 14 Fun Ways to Show Yourself Some Love on Valentine's Day!

Having a significant other in your life is awesome, but it's certainly not a pre-requisite to having an awesome Valentine's Day. Let's take Valentine's Day back this year and remember that it can instead be symbolic of the love we should not only show for ourselves, but also for the people we care about in our lives, that does not always have to include a romantic partner! EVEN if you are the kind of person that thinks Valentine's Day was invented by the candy and flower companies OR if you just never really cared about celebrating it, I hope that this video will give you some inspiration to think about Valentine's Day a little differently this year! I was a single mom for almost 14 years before finding the love of my life at 48, so there were plenty of times that I did not have a Valentine's Day date and still had a blast realizing how much I had to be grateful for and I found super fun ways to enjoy the holiday, and so can you. Now since some of my 14 tips may include a little preparation ahead of time, I am releasing this video a few days early, and you might also notice that I focus on ways that we can have fun ALL day, even though Valentine's Day in 2024 falls on a workday - it falls on hump day this year, in fact, and so if you find this video years from now, just realize THAT is the reason I am creating fun things to do all throughout your workday (with still getting your work done of course!). These tips are in order so that you can wake up in the morning with a special way to get your day started off on the right foot, and then you and I are going to be focusing on the rest of the tips all throughout the rest of the day so that you can have the best Valentine's Day ever and never forget how special you are, how much you are deserving to have love in your life, and how blessed you are to have your friends and family (and if they are the problem, watch my healthy boundaries videos! Resolutions DON'T work! These Action Steps can Crush Your New Year's Resolutions Once and For All!

Hello, listeners and welcome back to another empowering episode of The Career Woman's Secret Playbook Podcast. I'm your host, Dr. Dawn, and since we are already a few weeks IN to the new year, we are going to talk about New Year's Resolutions, why they often times DON’T work, and what we can do about it. I am also going to share a personal story with you about how the recent loss of my Mom has made me even MORE aware of how priceless time is and that if we haven't made our dreams come true yet, there is NO time to waste. Let's start with the reasons why resolutions often times don't work: Reason #1: Unrealistic Expectations: The first major reason why New Year's Resolutions tend to fail is that we often set unrealistic expectations for ourselves. Reason #2: TOO General: Vague goals like "get healthier" or "be more successful" make it difficult to track progress and stay motivated. Reason #3: No Plan in Place: Setting a resolution is just the first step - without a well-thought-out plan, it's challenging to know how to work towards your goals. Reason #4: Neglecting Self-Care: Many of us put our resolutions ahead of our own well-being and then we can burn out. Reason #5: Lack of Accountability: Lastly, a lack of accountability can lead to resolutions falling by the wayside. Sharing your goals with a trusted friend or mentor, or even finding an accountability partner, can significantly increase your chances of success. Hello, and welcome to Episode 36 of The Career Woman's Secret Playbook Podcast. We ALL have the same 24 hours in a day, and when you break it down into seconds and minutes, it's astonishing how quickly time slips away. So let’s start with the currency of time: Imagine your day as a treasure chest filled with hours, minutes, and seconds. The total wealth in this chest is constant – it doesn't matter if you're a billionaire or just starting your career; you get the same allocation of time. In a day, you have 24 hours, which amounts to 1,440 minutes or a whopping 86,400 seconds. That's a significant treasure at your disposal each day. And what’s ironic IS: That in the quest for success and happiness, people often measure their achievements in terms of money and possessions. Here's just a few reasons WHY time TRULY IS invaluable: #1: Time is Irreplaceable: Unlike money or material possessions, you cannot replenish or buy more time. #2: Time is Fair: It doesn't matter if you're rich or poor, famous or unknown, everyone gets the same amount of time each day. #3: Time Defines Your Legacy: Your life's worth isn't measured by your bank account or the things you own; it's measured by the impact you've made, the relationships you've nurtured, and the memories you've created. #4: Time Shapes Your Priorities: Understanding the value of time can help you prioritize what truly matters in your life. So, AS you can see, time is one of the MOST precious commodities that you will EVER have and yet so many people, myself included, have been guilty of wasting this precious commodity and often times we don’t EVEN know where all the time goes! So now that we truly understand how important time can be, are you ready to find out what we can ACTUALLY do about it? Let’s start by figuring out WHERE your time is actually going: Tip#1: Conduct a Time Audit: Keep a detailed record of how you spend your time for a week or more. Tip#2: Categorize Your Activities: After conducting the time audit, categorize your activities. Tip#3: Analyze Time Wasters: Review your time audit to identify activities that are not contributing to your goals or well-being. Tip #4: Set Priorities and Goals: Define your short-term and long-term goals, both personally and professionally. Tip#5: Create a Time Management Plan: Develop a daily or weekly schedule that reflects your priorities. Practice Self-Care Everyday EVEN on Vacation/Join Me for My Beach Walk and Find Out More!

I am challenging you today to make sure you are doing something special for yourself - remember ladies that self-care is NOT selfish. Come join me on my beach walk as we get down to the nitty gritty on why self-care is important EVEN when you are on vacation! As I sip my coffee on this early-morning walk I am showing you that carving out a little time to do something JUST FOR YOU is so important. My family likes to sleep in and I will go ahead and sleep in most days, but I make sure that I take at least one day to have a beach walk with my coffee (aka, my happy place), and there is nothing wrong with that. I know that I am going to come back happier, more energized and more fulfilled because I did something just for me and didn't put pressure on everyone else. I talk about this work/life balance a lot on my channel because I believe that as women we struggle with this in greater numbers than our male counterparts and I am determined to help you fix that! And I struggle with it too, and I am a professional! Even on my mother/daughter trip I had to remind myself to put my laptop away - I am working on some things that I am really excited about but I want to make sure that I am creating memories and I want to also really make sure that I am present in the moment. So why am I walking on the beach alone? Lol. Because even when you are spending time with loved ones, carving out a little time for self-care is important and you can't expect your loved ones to do everything with you. So instead of waking up my daughter, who has already gone on plenty of beach walks with me on our trip, she is sleeping in while her momma enjoys her alone time on this beautiful beach sipping her coffee. Ep34: How to Multi-Task without Spreading Yourself Too Thin Hello, and welcome back to The Career Woman's Secret Playbook Podcast. I'm your host, Dr. Dawn, CEO/Founder of Dr. Dawn ShopTalk and today we're tackling a topic that is often times seen as a critical skill in the workplace – multitasking. We all know it’s important to be able to multi-task well, but how do we do it without spreading ourselves too thin, getting overwhelmed and ultimately hurting the quality of our work and our peace of mind? THAT is what today’s episode is all about and if you follow these 7 steps, and in this order, you will be on your way! Step #1: Prioritize with Purpose – the key to successful multi-tasking is to know your priorities. Take a moment to identify your most critical goals/tasks for the week, month and even year. Step #2: Create a Master Schedule – once you know your priorities, it’s now time to create a master schedule so that you can create blocks of time to get it all done. Step #3: Batch Similar Tasks – an efficient way to do this is to batch tasks that are similar (return emails at one time of day; phone calls at another time, for example). That way, your brain doesn’t have to switch from one type of activity to another. Step #4: Set Boundaries – Make sure you let colleagues, family and friends know when you need focused uninterrupted time. Step #5: Embrace Technology Wisely – use technology to your advantage instead of letting it distract and interrupt you. Step #6: Practice Mindfulness – take a mental break by incorporating mindful meditations and exercises throughout your workday. Step #7: Learn to Say No – saying no to something that is not aligned with your goals or is just something you don’t have time to get to is saying YES to yourself.
